The Western Star 4800SA Twin-Steer is a common configuration for Eastern Canada, but check out this mixer built for North Carolina.
This mixer has a 410HP Detroit Diesel DD13 engine with an Allison 4500 RDS transmission to spin the 46,000 lb. rear axles. A lot of power is needed to move the 10yd. Continental mixer barrel. Due to the bridge laws in the Carolinas, a pair of 8,000 lb. Watson Chalin lift pusher axles had to be added. It was a squeeze in a 284″ wheelbase, but they pulled it off!
Thanks to Scott Pharr, from Piedmont Truck Center in Greensboro, NC, for sharing this WST “Sweet Tea” Mixer.
