Alan Johnson of Rosemount, MN, was recently in the market for a new Western Star. After discussing a lengthy list ranging from the seat colors to the engine specs with Dustin Brigman, a salesman at North FL Western Star in Jacksonville, it was brought to Alan’s attention that he could have a customized wheel for his new truck. Of course, he was thrilled with the opportunity, and decided that it would be the perfect addition.
The guys at Steering Creations, Inc. delivered an amazing wheel. Alan was more than impressed, stating, “It’s a very sharp wheel. It’s wrapped in black leather, has polished aluminum spokes, and has a cap with a red star that says, ‘Serious Trucks’. It’s the quality of a nice luxury vehicle.”
And Alan Johnson sure knows about the luxury vehicles. He’s the driver of a 2013 Western Star 4900 Auto Hauler. His trips consist of a lot of local runs, but he’ll pull the occasional 800 mile, round trip run when necessary.
When asked what he enjoys most about his Western Star car hauler, he said, “I like the interior cab. There’s a lot of room to get to the sleeper.” Alan’s last truck wasn’t as spacious, so he’s definitely excited for the extra room. He continues, saying, “It has a solid interior. Going down the road, nothing is rattling. It’s a real solid truck.”
Alan even mentioned people will walk up to his truck and he’ll roll down his window, or they see him at truck stops and say, “Your truck looks really cool!” He’s definitely one proud Star owner with a really rad, custom steering wheel.
Steering Creations, Inc. caters to the interiors of heavy-duty trucks. They offer an economy line and luxury line of steering wheels, horn pads, horn buttons, and hub kits.
Michael Umlauf, the company’s president, explains why he thinks it’s important for truckers to customize their wheels by stating, “All drivers have their own driving technique. Some have their hands on the wheel at 10 & 2. Some have one at 6 o’clock and their other arm is up by the window. Some drivers like wood wheels, while other prefer polyurethane.” Whatever your preference may be, they’ll have a wheel for you!
When asked why customers come to him looking for a new wheel, Mike stated, “They feel ours are better than the factory wheel and more aesthetically pleasing. Also, some wheels are old. They just want a new one.”
This is great news for all you Star fans out there: Steering Creations received official notice this month that they are now an official supplier to Daimler Trucks North America.
