What a great week in Vegas! This year’s Western Star Serious Trucks Challenge was a smashing success with great weather, incredibly talented drivers and a unique course designed to test them all while showing off just how nimble Western Star trucks can be.
The highest point total for the three days and winner of two VIP Passes to the 2013 NASCAR Nationwide Race is Gary Piercy with a stellar 49 out of a possible 50 points on his best run.
In second place with 48 points and a time of 3.42 minutes is Brian Saionz. He’s headed home with a $500 Apple Store Gift Card for his great run.
Our third place winner, Brandon Niemi, also received a 48 out of 50 points with a time of 5.4 minutes and received a $200 Best Buy Gift Card.
You didn’t have to be at the top of the leader board to have a
good time. Just ask Mary Ellen Gillies and her friend Dana Valente of Ontario, Canada.
Mary works with Palmer Construction Group and drives an International Mixer Truck with a tandem steer axle. She’s been driving for 33 years and it was both her second time at WOC and driving the Western Star Serious Trucks challenge. She was pretty happy about her 36 out of 50 score driving the Western Star 4900SF Kimble Mixer with a 380 hp, DD13 12.8L engine.
Mary’s friend Dana owns DMV Transport out of Ontario. DMV Transport is a transport and heavy haul company where she can be seen driving an International flat bed from time to time. She’s been driving for 25 years and chose to drive the Western Star 4700SF Dump with a 12.8L 450hp DD13 engine. At first didn’t want to drive, then ended up beating her friend by one point. They both were very surprised at the tight turning of the Star and had such a good time, they said they’d both be back next year to try again.
That’s all from the 2013 Serious Trucks Challenge. See you there next year!
