One application where the Western Star 4700 has started to make a presence is the mixer market. Depending on the weight distribution laws in different regions of the world, these bad boys create a stance – to make all other wannabees shiver. Here is a perfect example.
This 4700SF starts with a ½” single frame rail, nestling in a 450 HP @ 1650 lb/ft Detroit DD13 with REPTO (Rear Engine Power Take-Off), thrusting a Allison 4500 transmission, DDC 20,000 front, 13,000 pusher, 40,000 Meritor rear; all packaged in a 248” wheelbase. To ensure the booster axle can operate properly, Western Star inverts x-members in the chassis for clearance – just one those little things they do to help body builders ease the body installation.
