We all know how versatile Western Star trucks can be, and this 4800 definitely hits the nail on the head.
Karl Hipp, sales manager at Robert Hoover & Sons in Flanders, NJ, said about this particular 4800, “This is the biggest 4-wheel drive truck you can build. It has the heaviest front and rear axles and the biggest engine you can have with just six tires.”
This Western Star 4800 SA features a 109″ BBC 4×4 configuration and is powered by a DD13 engine with 435 HP and an Allison 4500 transmission. The add-ons for this municipal truck include a 26,000 lb. Ampliroll hook lift, a Beau-Roc dump body, a stainless steel Air-Flo spreader, and a Schmidt front plow.
Karl describes this truck as, “Big and shiny, and it has a lot of lights.” He goes on to say, “My favorite thing about the Western Star brand is the ability to customize these trucks for extreme duty application. I deal with a lot of cranes and municipal trucks, so it’s great that Western Stars are not limited to any one thing in particular. You can build just about anything you want.” And it goes without saying that this is one truly customized truck.
His tip on keeping your rig in tip-top shape year-round: “Wash them and grease them. That’s all you need.”
Thanks again to Karl Hipp From Robert Hoover & Sons for sharing this multi-tasking Star!
