Western Star 4900 EX
This custom 2014 Western Star 4900 EX is ready for its debut. Owner, Lee Huff, has added some unique and custom options to this 68″ low roof sleeper. Inside the tractor, you’ll find a DD16 engine with 600 HP and an 18 speed gear box. This rig will be on the road pulling refrigerator trailers and flatbeds (“skateboards”) very soon.
Lee Huff of Shepherdsville, KY worked with Crook Motor Company of Albemarle, NC to get this rig ready for the road. Almost everything is custom made for this Star. Rudy Cranford was one of the guys working with Lee to make this Star shine. He said, “The add-ons put it in a class of its own. It looks like a show truck.” The lights, chrome, and custom painted fenders really make this rig stand out from the crowd.
And that’s exactly what Huff loves about it. He’s 68 years old and has been in the trucking industry since August 18, 1974. Years ago, he owned several different makes of another big truck brand, and he even won an award at a truck show previously with one of those trucks. Unfortunately, Huff wasn’t getting the service he deserved with the other trucking company; he was upset and lied to. After spending over $1.5 million on his previous trucks, he turned his back on the other brand and decided to go with Western Stars going forward. And that decision led him to the 2014 Western Star 4900 EX.
Huff went on to say, “I’ve worked with Rudy [Cranford] before, and he’s very honest and nice. If everything works out with this new truck, I’ll order two more by the end of the year for my two other drivers. I wish every dealer was as truthful and honest as that crew. It would be one hell of a better world.”
Crook Motor Company has been around since 1997. Rudy explained that there’s many things he enjoys about the Western Star brand, “…but the quality stands out the most. It’s just a well-built truck. Most trucks this day and time are just a lot of plastic, but the Stars are well-built trucks.”
When asked what his favorite thing is about his new truck, Lee Huff answered, “The way I have it designed. The lights and chrome really make it stand out; I’m like Santa Claus, I like my lights”. He continued by saying, “It would be great to have it in the next big truck show. My personal opinion is that this is the prettiest truck on any interstate in the US. And if it’s not, I plan on making it the best.”
We’ll keep our eyes peeled for this truck in a show and on the road! This would be one pretty awesome rig to see in person, that’s for sure!
