We’re going back to Western Star’s roots where grapple hooks, chainsaws, and 40” diameter timber is king. The piece of machinery to tame all that is the 4900 Western Star!
This 4900SA 123″ BBC harnesses the powerful Detroit DD16 engine with 600 HP, is linked to a strong Eaton Ultrashift 18 speed transmission, Dana 78K wide track rear axles, and a Neway ADZ 78K rear suspension to deliver the candle sticks from 6,000 ft elevation to sea level. Each trip has a payload of about 140,000 pounds, and 3 trips per day are typically made.
Some of these Stars can handle up to 200,000 pounds on the muddy roads; all the while keeping you safe. Western Star started building log trucks over 40 years ago, so they understand the demands of the job.
All of these long, rugged trips prove why it’s so important to have a comfortable truck. Western Star has a heritage of reliability, durability, and even comfort. The 4900 has the largest door openings in the industry, making it safer and easier to get in and out of these trucks. These Stars also offer one of the highest ground clearances available, giving you the ability to handle the terrain most others wish they could.
Once you’re inside, you’ll notice greater visibility, easy-to-read gauges, more storage space, more space between the seats, additional insulation, and double door seals for comfort and noise reduction. Their new interior might actually make you feel spoiled!
We have to thank Craig Willett from Bailey Western Star in Campbell River, BC for sharing this “Serious Sasquatch Tamer”!
