The all new Western Star 5700XE was out for a test drive on the roads of Rhyolite, Nevada.
Jim Park starts the test drive with the 5700XE going uphill for a few miles to see how the Detroit DD15 engine and DT12 transmission power through. From the bottom of the hill all the way to the top, you can track its progress. The engine and transmission keep the RPM’s low, which is great for fuel economy
Once they summit the hill, they begin to downgrade into town in eco-mode. The speed limit changes pretty rapidly, so watch how the driver gets on the brakes and downshifts to get to the proper speed; it doesn’t take much effort.
You’ll see how the Western Star designers & engineers collectively worked together in order to get the best fuel-efficiency possible.
It’s also mentioned how smooth the suspension is, how wide the interior space feels, and how smooth and responsive the 5700XE is to drive. Jim Park gives it top marks for ride and handling, low noise levels inside the cab due to its aerodynamics, and overall aerodynamic styling.
Park says in the video, “I think it’s going to go a long way to bringing a whole bunch of new Western Star customers who’ve been looking for aerodynamics in a more traditionally styled truck.”
